Skippers log #16
Position 18 36N 4342W at 21:45 GMT, Log Entry: We made 145 miles progress today. It was not miles less to Cape Town, but miles sailed south into better wind speed. I have pulled away Rapscallion and Shuten-Dohji, but as South Carolina and I are in the same weather, I can't close the gap with him. What would I not give to be sailing an equal boat where it is the skill of the sailor on a level playing field. It is time to get a 60 footer, even if it is one of the current generation. I believe I can kick some butt!! If I can do what I am doing in a self-designed, home built 38 footer lengthened to 40 footer, (which says something about my abilities), what could I not do in a custom professionally designed vessel. It has been great sailing. Broke one autopilot. One left. I might be able to get it fixed once I have taken it apart. Can't let that slow me down. Not sleeping much as I am up often to trim the sails and tweak the course. I have every sail up that I can carry in these conditions, plus have a nearly full water ballast tank to try and keep this vessel on here tracks. Spray is flying across the deck and flying fish are airborne to get out of the way. Neal
